Certified Nurse Midwives

Meet Tracy Burns
CNM

What is a midwife?
The word midwife means “with woman”. Certified nurse-midwives or CNM's care for healthy, low-risk women throughout pregnancy, during labor and birth, and the postpartum period. CNM's also care for women throughout the lifespan for annual checkups, family planning, menopause, and common infections and health problems.

Our providers have a variety of backgrounds in neonatal and women's health. We utilize our combined knowledge & experience to empower women to be in control of their own health and wellness. We enable women to use their own innate strength and abilities. Women are intricately and superbly designed to give birth, and it is our job to remind them of this.

Tracy is a Board Certified Nurse Midwife. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2003 with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. After graduation she spent a year in labor delivery as a bedside RN and then took a job at Cincinnati Children's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Tracy spent 13 years taking care of premature infants before pursuing her career in women's health. Tracy graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2017 with her Master's Degree in Nursing. With a big heart for women and infant services Tracy is an advocate for midwives practicing in the hospital setting and has been an active team player in bringing Midwifery services to Banner Estrella. After 4 years at Estrella Women's Health Center, Modern Day Midwife has moved into a temporary space out of Banner Estrella while we build our permanent home... a birth center and wellness center in Goodyear Arizona.

Tracy is passionate about health and wellness. She believes in supporting women throughout the stages of their life. She feels that early education on the importance of nutrition, exercise, and spirituality can optimize health and wellness. Tracy is committed to caring for women by collaborating with other health care professionals to provide education, preventative health care services, preconception counseling, disease recognition and treatment, thereby improving overall health and wellness to women through an individualized plan of care that meets the cultural and spiritual needs of each individual woman.

Tracy is married and has two teen daughters. Tracy enjoys hiking, running, crossfit, and spending time with her friends and family. She has advanced certification as a L-2 Crossfit Trainer and is a BirthFIt Professional.Tracy is actively involved in improving maternal and neonatal outcomes globally through her work with the Helping Babies and Mothers Survive campaign.

Preconcption & Prenatal Care

As experts in health, nutrition, exercise, and family planning, it is best to start preparing your body before you are even pregnant. You can do this by moving your body 30 mins per day. Eating a diet rich in whole foods. Avoid eating highly refined processed carbohydrates. Prioritize adequate sleep (8hrs per night). Please take a methylated prenatal vitamin such as Smarty Pants or Thorne.

Please continue to follow Modern Day Midwife  as it grows to provide total care for women and offers hospital and birth center based birth coming fall 2024!
